This is a unique chance to start on the ground floor and grow this new business. You will be helping the community save good, usable building materials from the landfill. A strong candidate will have a background in retail management. Experiences with construction and customer service are also a plus. Grandpa’s Garage is a non-profit pilot project of Zero Waste Vashon. The position can start as early as October, 2026.
Store Manager
The Store Manager will serve as the primary operational lead for Grandpa’s Garage, overseeing day-to-day store operations, staff and volunteers, inventory, and customer experience.
Responsibilities will include:
- overseeing day-to-day store operations and opening/closing procedures;
- managing point-of-sale and basic operational recordkeeping;
- tracking sales, material flow, and other operating measures;
- supervising and scheduling staff and volunteers;
- managing material intake, acceptance, pricing, inventory, and merchandising;
- do material pickups including loading and unloading with ability to lift 50 lbs; and
- coordinating collections, pickups, and material movement;
Schedule: 24 hours/week during startup, increasing to 32 hours/week once retail operations begin.
Starting at $30-35/hr DOE
