Mission Accomplished – Sunday Styrofoam Recycling reaches an end

After August 20, 2023 this popular program will be closing down. We are working with KCSWD to set up Styrofoam and soft plastic (polyethylene film) collection facilities at the transfer station, hopefully before the end of the year. For Styrofoam and most other plastics, Ridwell now provides an at-home pickup service at a reasonable rate. The company has been collecting on the island for a year now. They have convenient, at-home pickup and they are good about transparency. Check their website to see where your items go for recycling. For more information, visit the Ridwell site and type in Vashon’s zip code 98070 for the Plastics Plus program. It is currently $18/ month or $24/month for added items like Styrofoam. Their service covers most of the items we have been collecting and many additional items too. And, it’s ok to go in on a subscription with friends and neighbors.
