ZWV has been challenged by an anonymous, incredibly wonderful donor to match her/his $2,500 with contributions from the community. That means your contribution will be doubled and ZWV will received $5,000. Our board of directors is barred from this challenge. We need you.

This money would launch Zero Waste Vashon projects!

What would we spend it on?

Our (nearly) first year of work has produced projects in the pipeline. In particular, King County will be performing a pilot project on Vashon Island, which will involve collecting and weighing yard & green waste intended for composting. They will be making an investment in and on Vashon that we hope to capitalize upon in the future. They will not, however, be publicizing this project. ZWV has to do that.

ZWV has to “encourage participation and educate the community on why these materials are being measured and what the potential opportunities are with demonstration of sustained tonnages.” The pilot project cannot succeed without a lot of work on ZWV’s part.

It will take a variety of approaches, all costing money, to communicate to you–our neighbors and friends–what King County Solid Waste will be doing here. This pilot project represents the first step towards discovering the feasibility of a composting facility on Vashon Island.

Future plans include investigation of the possibility of installing anaerobic digestion and biochar systems, and an educational research lab.

We CAN achieve an end to piling up waste in landfills and wasting precious resources in the relatively near future . . . IF YOU HELP.
